Perhaps there's a long-distance path you've always wanted to tackle, a beautiful stretch of coastline you've dreamed of exploring, or a historic pilgrimage route that's caught your imagination.
But perhaps you're unsure where to start. Navigation, planning or simply heading out on your own can feel a little daunting.
That's where I can help.
At Walk the Way UK, I offer friendly, affordable private guiding for individuals, couples and small groups. You don't need to be an experienced hiker or have everything worked out beforehand.
You choose the journey. I'll help you take the first step.
A Different Kind of Journey
Discover Britain's quieter paths
Although I'm qualified and insured to guide lowland walks throughout the UK, my particular passion is exploring Britain's historic pilgrimage routes.
Many of these ancient paths take us away from the busier walking destinations, through peaceful countryside, small villages, ancient woodland and landscapes rich in history.
Some link magnificent cathedrals and abbeys, while others pass through places most of us would otherwise never think to visit.
For me, their appeal lies in the changing landscapes, the history beneath our feet and the simple pleasure of discovering somewhere new.
Pilgrimage routes are my speciality, but I'm equally happy to guide you along any suitable lowland route in the UK.

What Does It Mean to Be a Pilgrim?
You don't need to be religious to walk a pilgrimage

The word pilgrim comes from the Latin peregrinus, meaning a traveller or stranger. Over time, pilgrimage became associated with journeys to places of religious significance.
While that history remains an important part of these ancient routes, people now walk them for many different reasons.
Some are motivated by faith, others by history, culture, personal reflection, a physical challenge or simply the opportunity to enjoy the countryside.
You don't need a religious belief to appreciate a pilgrimage, or a spiritual reason to enjoy the journey.
Sometimes, the simple act of walking somewhere is reason enough.

Did you know?
The Camino de Santiago is one of the world's most famous pilgrimage journeys, yet not everyone who walks it does so for religious reasons. In 2025, nearly one in five registered pilgrims stated that their motivation was non-religious, while many others combined faith with cultural or personal interests.
It shows that an ancient pilgrimage can mean different things to different people. The same is true of Britain's historic walking routes.

Why Walk with me?
Experience, reassurance and a genuine love of walking
I've spent more than 40 years exploring the outdoors, from Britain's countryside and long-distance trails to challenging mountain journeys and multi-day adventures overseas.
My experiences include completing the 104-mile Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, expedition adventure racing and walking hundreds of miles along historic pilgrimage routes, including the Camino de Santiago.
I'm a qualified and insured Lowland Leader, with outdoor first aid training and extensive experience of navigation, route planning and managing changing conditions.
My background in the military, public services and adult education has also taught me the importance of preparation, clear communication and remaining calm when things don't go to plan.
But guiding isn't about how far or fast I can walk. It's about helping you enjoy your own journey, at a pace that works for you.
More Than Just Someone to Show You the Way
One of the things I particularly enjoy is helping people build confidence in the outdoors, whether that's preparing for their first long-distance walk or taking on a new challenge.
Having worked as a Store Manager at Cotswold Outdoor and reviewed outdoor clothing and equipment for Walk magazine, I can offer practical advice on everything from footwear and waterproofs to rucksacks and packing lists.
I'll help you choose what you genuinely need, without encouraging you to spend money on equipment you don't.
I also hold formal adult teaching and assessment qualifications, allowing me to share my knowledge in a clear, approachable way.
It's your walk, not mine. My role is to help you make the most of it.
